Biography

Dominic Porcelli is a percussionist based in Central Massachusetts. Currently, he is a fourth year undergraduate student at Boston University, and studies with Tim Genis and Sam Solomon. Porcelli began on the drumset around the age of 5, and has played it ever since. He began studying concert percussion at the age of 12, which has since been the primary focus throughout undergraduate.

Porcelli has worked with several student orchestras, and has coached percussion sectionals for Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, Senior Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble (NEC Prep), and Worcester Youth Orchestras. He has also played with several local orchestras, such as the New England Philharmonic and Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to concert percussion, Porcelli maintains his strong ties to his drumset upbringing, and frequently performs freelance jazz gigs around New England, specializing in all music from the big band era to bebop and beyond.

When not performing or teaching, Porcelli enjoys transcribing drum parts from big band recordings, hand-copying orchestral parts, and some light composing and arranging.
